Amazon Vs Macmillan! Goliath Vs Goliath! I'm a little David with no rocks to be found anywhere!

As I was alerted by the talented Ms. Colleen Venable, and directed to this article on the New York Times, Amazon (they get no link) has pulled down all of Macmillan Publishings titles in a dispute with the publisher over the price of ebooks for their Kindle reader. Now both First Second and Roaring Brook Press, two companies with whom I have published the majority of my books, fall under the Macmillan banner ( as well as Henry Holt, St. Martins, FSG and others) so they're all yanked; What's worse, since all of my work has included full color illustrations, they weren't even eligible for Kindle-ation, so I'm just an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire.

Realistically, this will all be resolved soon, I'm sure. However, if you're reading this, and you were planning to buy one of my books at some point in the near future, may I humbly suggest you do it right now, at a place other than Amazon?

Olympians interview on Comic Book Resources

Please click here to read a rawther extensive interview with yours truly over at Comic Book Resources about Olympians and other exciting things.

Great review of Zeus at the School Library Journal/ Fuse #8

Click here to read what is quite possible one of my favorite reviews for any of my books, ever. It's not that it's unfailingly positive (in face there a few items mentioned as needing improvement)-- it's how well thought-out and thorough it is. Also, the reviewer picked up on a lot, if not most, of the little extra details I threw in Zeus, largely for my own amusement because I figured no-one would ever catch them. Looks like I'll have to step up my game going forward :)

Ball-Peen Hammer on Stumptown's best of the year lists

Click here to listen to a podcast of Stumptown Trade Reviews Best of 2009 list, with Ball-Peen Hammer coming in at #'s two and 3 on hosts Brian and Thor's respective lists. Devotees of this blog will remember their very kind review from earlier this year. I'm proud to say that Ball Peen shares space with such great works as David Small's Stiches and David Mazzuchelli's Asterios Polyp. Not too shabby.
