Warm up: Zombies, New Yorker style

Today's topic on Drawbridge was "New Yorker Comic". I watched Walking Dead last night so I came up with this:

Incidentally, this is not my first stab at doing some New Yorker style cartoons. In fact, a few years back, one of my cartoons even won a New Yorker contest on the Leonard Lopate show. Check that one out here, as well as a couple of other cartoons I did.

New Yorkery

Trying to get back on the posting horse, so putting up this. I think I managed the not-quite-funny, more-kinda-droll feel that I get from the New Yorker these days. This was one of the Thanksgiving cartoons I submitted to the Leonard Lopate show that didn't win (the winner is elsewhere on the blog).

New Yorker-y

Figured I'd give everyone a break from all of the gods and goddesses that have dominated my sketching lately and share this little New Yorker-type cartoon. For those who never saw it, this is the winning cartoon from the Leonard Lopate Show contest that eventually led to my recent interview. At the time, Leonard suggested that the caption should be shortened to simply "Next time, their place" and darn it if he wasn't right.

My own favorite bit is the unhappy clown with the bird/rodent cage on his head. There's a sad, sad story there somewhere.

I Should Really Be At My Drawing Board...

My new Imac is like a big, white shiny piece of candy.

After a very long period with no in-home on-line capability (after other long periods of no-me in the home or no-home-to-be-in period) we're finally wired again, and with a styling machine. No, no, make that a bitching machine.

So now I finally can do all the things I've been wanting to do forever, like start some sort of halfway respectable website for myself, of which this blog is the first step towards.

Of course, now I realize that what I really need is a scanner. Until I get the opportunity to put up some awe-inspiring drawings, please enjoy this New Yorker style cartoon I drew up. I think it captures just the right "kinda-almost-funny-better-to-call-it-droll" vibe that the New Yorker so excels at.
