Today's warm-up was "Intestines"
In every zombie movie ever made, there's always that one poor bastard who goes down in the middle of a swarm of the evil dead. All those zombies just hunkering down and chowing on him (or her) like there's no tomorrow... Well, also in every zombie film ever made, just one bite from the undead is enough to turn you into a zombie, so what happens to those unfortunate souls who spent some time as the main course of a pack of ghouls before reanimating? Well they come back, I guess, but looking substantially worse for the wear than the typical Hollywood zombie. When the Imminent Zombie Apocalypse finally hits, I predict that there will be a lot of sad cases like our friend here shambling around.

Romero Zombies!
Today's Drawbridge topic was "George Romero", as it was his birthay recently.
George Romero, in Night of the Living Dead, created a new entry to our lexicon of classic monsters, joining such luminaries as Bram "Dracula" Stoker, Mary "Frankenstein" Shelley and, uh, Wolfman Jack. To celebrate their creator's birthday I drew some anonymous zombies.

Warm up: Zombies, New Yorker style
Today's topic on Drawbridge was "New Yorker Comic". I watched Walking Dead last night so I came up with this:
The end result is maybe more Far Side than New Yorker, but whatever. Gary Larson rules.
Incidentally, this is not my first stab at doing some New Yorker style cartoons. In fact, a few years back, one of my cartoons even won a New Yorker contest on the Leonard Lopate show. Check that one out here, as well as a couple of other cartoons I did.

Walking Dead
Today on Drawbridge, in anticipation of the upcoming television show, Hallowe'en and my own perverse fascination with Zombies, the topic was "Walking Dead". I had a little bit of extra time to do my warm up sketch this morning, so I got to do a little more detailed sketch than usual.

Which is good, because the walking dead are more impressive in hordes.
Unfortunately, I don't have cable, so I won't be seeing the show, but Happy Hallowe'en everybody!

warm up catch up
As previously mentioned, I was sick for the first part of this week, and as such missed out on the warm up drawings that were done around the studio without me. One of the topics, though, was too good for me not to throw in my hat over (?) so hence this catch up warm up session.
The topic was "tongue". Here's T-Money Hamilton's:

and here's mine.

My girlfriend hated this, I should mention.

Zombeatles
Two great tastes that taste great together. It's nothing to do with anything, but I thought I'd share regardless.

Oldie but moldy
In 2006, I was living temporarily in Italy, when First Second editor Mark Siegel asked me to create something for their new blog, as a kind of way to introduce myself and my sensibilities to new readers, and while I was at it, maybe talk a little about my new homa in Roma.

The above comic is what I came up with. First Second initially passed on it, as it was determined to (A) be way the hell out there and (B) nothing to do with whatsoever with my then upcoming First Second comic Journey into Mohawk Country. Instead I sent in some sketches from sketchbooks that had luckily moved to Italy with me, and that was that. Sometime later, when a normal contributor to First Second's blog missed a deadline, my zombie comic was resurrected and made its undead appearance.
I've always been rather fond of this strip, and I keep thinking how I should make a new installment for my new(ish) apartment in Brooklyn. Too bad I didn't think to run this on Halloween.
